El crecimiento craneofacial es un proceso que comienza en la vida intrauterina hasta que el individuo alcanza su madurez. A pesar de que se ha buscado establecer un consenso respecto a las teorías que explican como ocurre este proceso, no se ha logrado establecer una hipótesis aceptada y válidada por toda la comunidad científica.
Es importante lograr comprender los mecanismos por los cuales la cabeza y el cráneo llegan a su formación completa, ya que podría determinar el origen de malformaciones faciales o anomalías dentarias, como las maloclusiones.
Entre las teorías postuladas, destaca la del Servosistema, de Alexandre Petrovic, la cual se mantiene en consideración hasta la actualidad. A diferencia de otros postulados, la también llamada Teoría Cibernética de Crecimiento, establece el rol que cumplen los factores hormonales y mecánicos sobre la actividad genética. El objetivo del presente trabajo es revisar los fundamentos y conceptos de la Teoría del Servosistema y cómo explica el proceso de crecimiento craneofacial.

Craniofacial Growth and Development: Mini Review of the Servosystem Theory
Craniofacial growth is a process that begins in utero and lasts until the individual reaches maturity. Despite the fact that a consensus has been sought regarding the theories that explain how this process occurs, it hasn’t been possible to establish a validated and accepted hypothesis by the entire scientific community.
It is important to understand the mechanisms by which the head and skull reach complete development, since this could determine the cause of facial malformations and dental anomalies, such as malocclusions.
Among the postulated theories, Alexandre Petkovic’s Servosystem Theory stands out, and remains under considerations now a days. Unlike other postulates, the so-called cybernetic theory of growth establishes the role played by hormonal and mechanical factors over genetic activity.
