ABSTRACT

Validation of Ultrasonography and Magnetic Resonance Imaging of Bile Ducts in Diagnosis of Billiary Lithiasis. Carlos Andrade Marín Hospital.

OBJECTIVE: To review magnetic resonance imaging of bile ducts (MRIBD) and ultrasound (US) studies in order to determine their contribution to diagnose biliary lithiasis in Carlos Andrade Marín hospital.
METHODS: This is a retrospective cross-sectional validation of tests research. Complementary studies (abdominal ultrasonography, ERCP and MRIBD) performed between October 2009 and September 2012 at HCAM were reviewed; 261 patients were identified with abdominal pain and jaundice and divided in two groups: 198 of them formed US vs. ERCP group and 212 the CoRm vs. ERCP group; patients with incomplete records were excluded. ERCP was considered as gold standard and sensitivity, specificity and predictive values were obtained for US and MRIBD.
RESULTS: Ultrasonography reached sensitivity of 69.28% (95%-CI: 61.96 - 76.6), specificity: 68.75% (95%-CI: 51.13 - 86.37), positive predictive value: 92% (95%-CI: 86.84 - 97.16), and negative predictive value: 30.14% (95%-CI: 18.93 - 41.35). MRIBD obtained sensitivity of 88.07% (95%- CI: 82.99 - 93.14), specificity 36.11% (95%-CI: 19.03 - 53.19), positive predictive value: 87.08% (95%-CI: 81.87 - 92.29) and negative predictive value: 38.24% (95%-CI: 20.34 - 56.04).
CONCLUSIONS: Sensitivity and specificity values of US and MRIBD found at HCAM are similar to those reported in reviewed publications.
}, number={2}, journal={REVISTA MÉDICA HJCA}, author={Andrade Ortiz, Fabián Mauricio and Cabezas Tapia, Henry Geovanny}, year={2016}, month={jul.}, pages={175–178} }
